Tony Hawk was one of the top skateboarders in the world in his teens, and in his 17-year career he won more than 70 skateboarding contests. He got his start in the 1970s when skating was an outsider’s sport, and he became known for vert skateboarding. Bullied at school because he was small, Tony used hard work and determination to make up for what he lacked in physical power. In 1999, Tony made skating history when he performed a 900 at the X Games, a two-and-a-half aerial spin. Tony started his own skateboarding company, BirdHouse, and also has a successful line of video games and skateboarding videos.
